JOB PURPOSE

Systems Engineering analysis, design, construction, and operation of electrochemical and chemical process systems in OxEon’s energy and space technologies portfolio.  Specifically, applying the disciplines of systems engineering, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, chemical and electrochemical thermodynamics, and catalyst reactions.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyze project requirements and develop block flow, process flow, and piping & instrumentation diagrams, technical drawings, plans, and specifications for systems.

Specify equipment, instrumentation, and controls for the projects. Specification may entail communication with vendors, using fundamental equations or software to size items, and otherwise applying CAD/CAE tools to specify and verify appropriate items are selected. Identify suppliers, prepare purchase orders, and monitor custom work of external fab shops.

Detail project requirements to the mechanical design team. Develop SOPs and protocols for construction and commissioning of the systems. Work with technicians to construct, commission, and operate systems.

Travel to client sites, commission equipment, and train clients to operate the unit without OxEon personnel on site.

Supervise technicians in maintaining in-house pilot scale equipment.

Provide information to senior personnel for analysis reports, project update briefings, project milestones, monthly, quarterly, and final reports. Provide independent technical assessment to challenge approach of team members including the senior personnel.

Analyze and report results of device and system testing, compare results to the analysis basis of the design.

Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and work with vendors and customers.

Work with PI and PM to execute project SOW to budget, schedule, and customer expectations.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work in office, R&D laboratories, and manufacturing environments

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

3-5 Years of engineering analysis, design, and operating experience.

Demonstrated proficiency in engineering principle and practice, especially in specification of field equipment.

Exceptional writing, technical, and critical thinking skills, and reasoning ability.

Ability to manage tasks to schedule and budget

Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.

Must be a self-motivated and a great team leader.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Three years or more field engineering experience with a focus on thermal-fluids design and analysis.

Experience using SolidWorks, Finite Element, and CFD tools.

Experience in electrolysis, reforming, and synthetic fuels.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or substantially complete graduate coursework with industry experience comparable with a master’s research project and thesis publication.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Chemical Engineering.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to frequently lift 25 lbs.   Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. with help, although not on a daily basis. This position requires frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, and overhead reaching.  This position requires occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling.  This position will be frequently exposed to heat, cold, noise, and heights.
