SOEC/SOFC Development and Test Engineer

OxEon Energy, LLC is a cleantech company located in North Salt Lake. The company works in commercial and government programs growing its core technologies of high temperature electrolysis, hydrocarbon reforming, synthetic fuel production, and power generation by high temperature fuel cells. OxEon is looking for a Development and Test Engineer to help support OxEon's mission, including electrochemical testing, prototype cell fabrication, testing oxide cells and interpreting data, etc. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the processing, performance enhancement, and electrochemical testing of solid oxide fuel cells and solid oxide electrolysis cells
  • Actively participate in prototype cell fabrication and testing to analyze designs and validate cell manufacturing processes (~50% of the time will be on the manufacturing floor).
  • Maintain and operate electrochemical testing equipment
  • Test solid oxide cells, implement test plans, analyze and interpret test data
  • Design and execute experiments, communicate results through reports and presentations
  • Demonstrate problem-solving ability by resolving cell performance and manufacturing issues. Rapidly adapt to changes and promote new ideas
  • Use experimental data to facilitate internal and external discussions and guide experimental plans
  • Maintain databases and accurate records
  • Write operation procedures, technical reports, project summaries, and interface with collaborators, customers, and suppliers.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of testing milestones
  • Participate in root cause analysis and failure analysis activities
  • Work in a safe manner
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Materials Engineering, Electrochemistry, or related discipline
  • Familiarity with basic electrochemical and physical characterizations
  • Materials characterization experience (particle size, surface area analysis, x-ray diffraction) 
  • Optical and electron microscopy experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Hands-on experience in a research or industrial lab
  • Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational, troubleshooting, interpersonal, leadership skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse team required.
  • Must be detail oriented, a self-starter, ambitions, and willing to tackle new challenges
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years experience in a materials development and manufacturing environment
  • DC and AC electrochemical characterization techniques including experience performing impedance analysis
  • Experience preparing presentations and data analysis with wider technical teams and external customers
  • Ceramic processing experience (tape casting, sintering, slurry and ink fabrication, screen printing)
